I think telling a child your not going to see your mother anymore or ever again is like all or nothing type of language and the child obviously loves his mother. That was painful to hear.

I have a problem with children that age, being present in such conversations...developmentally, I wonder how they handle such discussions.

This seems like BS when it comes to kids. They hope the sessions will open them up so they can find their own path to healing. These kids are like 4 and 6. You hit them with "I'm never going to let you see your mom again because she hurt you, " and I'm sure you have a kid who is 10x more uncertain and damaged as a result.
