I thought this was going to happen last year with all the talk of Hamilton and Fred wanting to carry on the good GP2 partnership from almost 20 years ago. But once Hamilton resigned with Merc I thought it was over. Definitely the most shocking piece of F1 news I have ever heard.

If true, it can only be because Mercedes new car not up to competing with Red Bull - or Ferrari in 2024 or beyond. What is confusing is the fact that Mercedes were supposedly leading the pack in building a new engine for the regulation changes coming in 2026. So I felt it was only a matter of time before he was driving a winning car again. Maybe it's as simple as he just wants to drive for Ferrari before retiring.
