I have rhinos skin and I let this dude did his 3rd ever (as in HIS 3rd career tattoo) tattoo on me and since he didn’t know how to tattoo my skin the whole tattoo came out in 2 months now he’s a beast and did half a sleeve for free on me and it stayed very nicely. One of my favorite pieces.

I have the pound of flesh sample pack (a bunch of tiny skins, like 2x2in) and it’s honestly harder to tattoo than real human skin.

I'd imagine the most realistic experience could come from buying pig skins from a butcher, since they'd be easy to come across. Though some people may be opposed to it for ethical reasons

You can also use pig skin, just buy a ham with skin. Not only do you get real skin for practice but you also practice on round surfaces.

They aren't for depth control they are purely for line shading and artistic practice.

thick foam rubber sheets also works well to get a first feeling but working on real skin asap is the best!
