Intro to Samba-Choro on pandeiro by Brian Rice

At Choro Camp New England 2020 we will focus on tunes composed in 5 different rhythmic styles: polca, choro, samba, maxixe and baião. One of this year's Choro Camp instructors, Brian Rice, has prepared a series of introductory videos demonstrating each of these rhythms on the primary percussion instrument used in a choro ensemble, the pandeiro. Thanks for these introductory lessons, they’re great! I’ve always thought without the specific rhythms, that define Brazilian music, being spelt out by having a rhythm section that can really ‘cook’ Choro becomes reduced to a ragtime variant. The rhythms of Brazil are the ‘ secret sauce’ !!
