June 19 is World Sickle Cell Day, and a new gene therapy shows promising results to help treat the disease. Sickle cell disease disproportionately impacts African Americans. One in every 365 Black babies is born with sickle cell disease, and one in 13 carries the sickle cell trait.

I understand what you’re saying but since people with sickle cell are not in areas where malaria is it is a disease and it does not prevent malaria. It just keep you from suffering the sever effects of malaria. My daughter just died last June and she had sickle cell.
