If anyones ever read Time Bandits book, John is no stranger to messing with the Russians. Back in the 80’s Cold War era, they set a bunch of gear on the Russian side just to mess with the Russians, then got chased back by the Russian navy, went back AGAIN to the Russian side, got their pots, and made it back into US waters. That takes balls, that’s why we all love John.

My mom’s best friend had a husband that flew for the US Air Force. They were called up one night (based out of ND), to the west coast. They flew supersonic to the coast to find Russians flying MIGS, they made contact with them & the Russians were holding up pieces of paper with the US/USSR hockey team scores, this was durning the Olympics, mid-‘80’s. The Russians were laughing & waving & gave them the thumbs up & flew back over the line. The US team won, by the way.
