Introduction to Scrapping Copper Wire

Here is a video I filmed to give an introduction to the different types and classifications of copper wire and where to find them. Please check with your local scrap yard about the legalities of selling stripped copper wire in your area. Always keep a paper trail of where you acquire your metal to avoid any mix ups with law enforcement if you are falsely accused of metal theft.

Very professional my man. I love that I'm not the only hobbyist who's living room looks the way it does.

Terrific Vid. I just realize how silly I was to get rid of an Arc Welder without looking inside. Bugger.

awesome video, thanks for the info, I have been getting ripped off, I had an idea I was but wasn't for sure and the thieves stealing wire are making it hard for honest folks...

Great video and thanks for touching on the legality part. I got my hands on some copper wire from work today and I wasn’t sure if I should sell it out of the casing or in. It’s e51583-w (ul) 600 v 2 awg type mtw or thwn or thhn or gasoline and oil resistant wire. I have roughly 100 feet since the connection it was used for was in front of our building. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance !

i get #1 price for any size, clean copper can have a little oxidation. painted really heavy oxidation tar grease solder goes as #2

So in AZ you're not allowed to sell any sort of stripped wire without a business license? And do your scrap yards there actually enforce that ? I live in PA so it's of no major concern to me, just curious is all. I know here you can sell stripped wire but it can't be burned..obviously. I think that goes for all states and is federal law. Good videos and thanks.

That's a real crock of shit they don't let people do stripped wire in AZ - I'd figure the "crime rate" of that goes up pretty easily.

The thickness of the wire does not change the value. #1 copper means the wire has no insulation, and no coating. #2 copper will have solder, tin plating, resin, paint, or any other coating a wire might have that will make the wire harder to melt.

not sure where you get your info but all stripped wire is BB "bare bright" not number one or two

I run all that wire through a home made granulator.
