As for US troops breaking up the WWI vets gathering, it just goes to show, troops just following orders isn't new or limited to tyrannical regimes.
The Brits were about as bad. After WWI, many businesses had up signs saying veterans need not apply.

In 1975 when Vietnam was surrender to the north, veterans returned home to; being spit on at the airport and called baby killer and the extent of the VA could be rapped up in what they at the time call it “Article 99”. I removed my uniform on the bus and changed into a cheap set of civies I purchased at the PX. It was not a good time to be a veteran.

The Wilson Administration was writing checks it couldn't cash. That it took so long for veterans to get any voice was criminal.
