I've worked in Programming for almost 20 years, and I can confirm that being secretive and hiding knowledge is the default expectation that I have for fellow colleagues. If you find someone who shares information and is genuinely helpful, it's like finding a diamond in a bag of coal.

There's only two reasons why people keep their job. One is because they are liked as s person, and the other is because they are viewed as useful. Helping other people with the knowledge you have is an easy way to get liked by people and recognised as s useful person.

Some of my coworkers said, they don't share because people are lazy. Once you help them, they will ask for help for even the simplest problem. And that will cost time and money.
If you share them on youtube, you'll get like, followers, and money.
If you want people to share, usually you have to show them, how it would be beneficial for them to help you. You have something in return for them. Buy them lunch, teach them something in return, etc

I guess it depends on the workplace. The OG's like to help each other. Helping each other and being open to criticism allows for a friendlier, more productive environment where you all have less bugs. ... or Rubber Duck method works when you are working from home.

The "Yea that is what I thought" could be a way to not be seen as incompetent.
That person could be insecure or that person could be afraid of not finding jobs or customers because of a perceived lack of knowledge and perceived lack of competent.
That person could just be trying to save face toward himself or herself.

Some young programmers can be very annoying when it comes to this kind of thing. Although, the other young programmers really stand out when they act with maturity.

I just thought it would be if they always give you the answer you would always depend on them and not search for yourself. From what I'm understanding you have to be able to find information as a programmer. So helping people would be nice but then they would lose their curiosity and instead of researching and understanding the concept they will just ask the senior developers. But I've been wrong before

Developer knowledge is overrated, marketing knowledge is not. As a skilled developer, you're still replaceable, as a skilled marketer you can say, -f you I don't need to work for anybody.
