This beautiful instrumental by "Acker Bilk" was released in 1961 and was the UK's best selling single in 1962. As instrumentals go, they don't get much better than this one and i just love it, and the "Clarinet being played just happens to be one of my favourite musical instruments,my son is also learning to play the clarinet at the moment, but he ain't quite got it yet, and my ears are now sore lol, "Enjoy" this tune is a classic.

This song always reminds me of my mother when I was very young. She always had a radio on in the house listening to music of the day. This was one of them. Still brings a tear or two till this day. Even though it was more then 50 years ago, I remember it as if it were today.

This tune brings up so many emotions. I remember sitting watching the series on UK TV with my parents. Listening to it now makes me wonder where all those years went.

A beautiful and haunting melody that`s never forgotten. Brings back happy, and sad, memories from the past, never tire of hearing it.

My Dad loved beautiful music like this and it's from him that I learned to love it too and have a deep appreciation for it. So beautiful and so peaceful and relaxing to listen to.

This was the soundtrack to my first year in 6th Form grammar school; and to endless discussion about the latest edition of NME; fond and irreplaceable memories; RIP Acker.

So beautiful! Thank you TheOldrecordclub! This song reminds of growing up, during the 60's, in a small village in southern Philippines; of my farmer parents who were early risers and who, each dawn, tuned in to an AM station which had this as its theme music. This song would gently wake me up then allow me to drift back to sleep while they started the day's toils... Now they are gone but this music vividly brings back memories of them, of my childhood, and how simple life was then.

I cry every time I hear this. My Dad loved it so and told me that he would like it played at his funeral. It was many many years later that he passed and it hurt me deeply when my younger sister took charge of the arrangements...his song wasn't played

I often walk along the shore. Both me and my lady. On the coast when the weather pattern shows what's known as an offshore trough, the beautiful green blue ocean is like a mill pond. The sight is priceless and so is our time on the beach. Beautiful music Acker and I'm sure you're getting them out walking on those beaches 'Up There' aren't you?

All other versions of this song pale in comparison with Mr. Acker Bilk. The clarinet sounds so sexy and the whole mood of the song is irrepressible.

Taal volcano is amazing. The scenery is just out of this world - something about the contrast between the red alien looking rocks/soil and the surrounding emerald green water. Rode a donkey up, but I was kind of overweight then so I got off the donkey half way because I felt sorry, and walked with the donkey the rest of the way instead. And up top there is a small shack that sells beer. Lol... One of the most memorable experiences in my travel life for sure. Nice pics.

Some of the pictures used are very like the Maldives but it's the Island of Masirah, Oman, that his music always reminds me of. We used to sit outside the 'Water Sports Club', condensation dripping off a very cold bottle of 'Charlie' (Carlsberg) and this playing on a large AKAI reel to reel tape recorder as the sun went down over the Masirah Strait (about 10 miles to the Mainland.
Stationed at Royal Air Force Masirah at the time 1968-69.
