The correlation method is used to see whether two variables are associated. The regression method is used to identify whether one of the variables causes the other. Both do this by plotting the dependent variable against the independent variable and looking for a non-random linear pattern.

The video also describes how correlation does not imply causation, but also how it can be very useful anyway.
Several real-world examples are discussed to illustrate the major points of this procedure.
It also describes where the terms correlation and regression come from. Finally, it discusses the fallacy of regression.
