I agree, this is wrong. Non-violent prisoners, could serve their time, under house arrest. The real problem, is the corporate for profit prisons. Also, when you have served your time, your record, should be expunged. This is the best way to give people back their lives. White collar crime, is the one that damages our society the most. A good example, is the Wall Street Crash. How many people did they hurt? How many went to jail?

Trying to rationalize for intentionally or willfully failing to take responsibility will not solve the problem. Take responsibility.

humanity is at a point in time where we could just pay EVERYONE enough to live decently doing whatever they want or nothing at all, instead of spending that money on keeping them in jail, its just so stupid and inefficient, criminals are criminals because they need money, so the system has to pay to lock them up somewhere, why not just give them that money instead?

Im liberal and i completely disagree, yall make it sound like people were just chilling in their porches and police kidnapped them? Also I do agree not everything that is illegal is wrong, being indocumented is not the same as gangbanging or selling crack... If ur dangerous you should be locked up, period

Far too many people are in prison for non-violent drug related offenses and there needs to be reforms to diminish the prison populations. But Mr. Jones, college campuses and country clubs aren't places where people and gangs routinely beat and murder one another. And 'NASA scientists', really?

This is the kind of well thought out and well-presented arguments that people need to be putting out to educate people and get change in society. This kind of rational thinking is getting drowned out by all the radical, loud mouthed, emotional activism in our country. Thank you for this post.
