In this video we take a look at a custom flexible solar panels from the company Lensun. I discuss the potential applications/need for panels that are not shaped like the traditional rectangular ones we are used to seeing. I will pin a comment to the top of this video that tracks the output and durability of the custom panel I got, over time, so you guys can make an educated decision about wether it's something you want to try out.

I didn't do a good job in this video of showing how flexible the panel was; sorry about that. It's slightly less plyable than the Renogy flexible panels I've used, but plenty flexible to match the curvature of the vehicle paneling. Future videos will show it adhered smoothly to the hood of the vehicle. This pinned comment will also contain updates on the power output and construction integrity of the panel over months of exposure to the elements.

My leaf has required so little maintenance that I actually had to add brake fluid myself since it hasn't been to a shop for a few years. Also, great suggestion for the tire pressure! It does make a good bit of difference if you are using most of the charge in a day.

Yahoo! An update on the custom solar cell coatings! Too bad that didn't work out, but I guess that's how some experiments turn out. Better to have tried than never attempted? Fitting panels to the front of the Leaf seems really difficult, even with the custom panels from the awesome company that a subscriber recommended (thanks to that person!). Have you considered fitting a few panels to the doors of the Leaf? They might not be in the most efficient spots, which it looks like you already have covered, but the doors look flat enough that it would be much easier to mount panels. I know the Sono Motors Sion does this, but I haven't heard how much of a gain they get from doing that. Thanks for posting!

Have you ever tried to put panels on the side of a boat hull?

how well will the solar powered module survive texas heat on a dashboard? It gets mighty hot in cars during most of Texas most of the year.

When you think about what percentage of the time you're actually in your car using it compared to what percentage of time the car is staying at one space collecting Sun what about optimizing the solar panels so that you have a bigger array when the car is installed sitting while you're working. What if you used more of your car space not just your car to collect sun. Maybe if you had the sides of a panel flip open to double the capacity on each side. You'd almost need a double sided solar collection area so they would collect some walls flipped over and then clicked sun while it's extended out wgile parked. what if you just had quick attachments so you can pull it out of the trunk clip it onto the front fold open the wings and then you would not be limited by the dimensions of your hood maybe limited by the dimensions of your car space. What if it folded up accordion style so that you unfolded it eight times so that goes up over your windshield up the roof. It could act as a way to keep the interior from overheating block in the Sun as well as collecting sun. For storage storage on the inside of the car creating a pocket attached to the ceiling after it's folded up. so you're not taking floor space or seat space you're taking ceiling space. Probably 16 reasons why this would not work and we really need if it could though.
