"The signals from Brussels and other European capitals mainly concern plans to militarize Europe, which are in clear discord with the Russian and U.S. presidents’ intention to find ways for a peaceful settlement. Europe has so far, so to speak, engaged in militarization and has turned into a party of war."

STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that during their call on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed among other things who will represent Moscow and Washington in the talks that will be held in the next few days regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Peskov said that the talks to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will touch on resuming the Black Sea initiative to establish safe shipping but wouldn’t immediately say who will represent Russia in the talks.

Peskov also said that European plans for raising military spending “are in clear discord with the Russian and U.S. presidents’ intention to find ways for a peaceful settlement.”

“Europe has engaged in militarization and has turned into a party of war,” he added.

This comes as EU leaders met in Brussels on Thursday at a summit to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine as well as commitments to rearm the European Union.
