About 40 years ago I would have killed for this! I had to build a scientific model for the Natural History Museum in London, and it has to work like a pinball machine where there were red green and yellow balls that were fired into many holes in the table and must be ejected automatically if their colour didn't match the colour of the hole. I used red and green LED illumination and phototransistor to sense the colour and a a solenoid to eject the ball, all built with CMOS TTL logic on a small PCB to go behind each hole. It would be very different today with colour sensors and microcontrollers!

Great! I am planning to use for reading ammonia content in fish tank.

Hey sorry but I didn’t understand how you connected the wires to the TCS3200 sensor and would like you to explain how please and thank you

For industrial scale color detection, you might look at the OpenCV library with video camera input

It could be used for a smart Lock where it sends a picture of a randomly generated color to your phone which you can use to unlock it. That way the color key changes every time so it’s more secure

as a father to kids that love lego
i would be interested in a lego sorting machine by color:)

Hi thanks for the video.
Is there any way by which i can sense the color of the object using same color sensor from a distance.

Color could be used as in interface between different electronic devices that you wish to use for other logic programs with the micro-controller.. Will the sensor read the color of an LED to determine state (off/on) or in the case of a multiple color LED, Red/Green/Off ?

For instance I have a commercial driveway monitor and would like to send an SMS text when it goes off, it has an LED that lights up that I could use that as an input to snap a picture, start a video, turn on lights and log a message.

Can you please make a video on how to use the Adafruit AS7262 6-Channel Visible Light /Color Sensor?

Hi Nick, love this video and learned quite a bit from it. I got it working on an UNO but now need to get it working on a Mega 2560 for a bigger project I am working on. I have tried it on the Mega but not getting the colours to show on the TFT screen orthe RGB values to print in the serial monitor. Will the code work on a Mega and if yes what pins should I be using for the colour sensor? Can you help please? TIA

I almost have it working but the screen flickers in time with the green led and it thinks yellow is blue and vice versa, and it can't see red. It is quite good on green...

Sir, how to make a colored line following robot using these sensors, instead of regular IR modules?

Great video,
how come it doesnt recognize the the green of the mat when you remove the colored papers ?

There is an optical ic at center of sensor pcb . CD/DVD burner also have such ic . So what the both ic are identical or different?

Hello Nick! Χαίρετε
I'm currently studying product design at university in England and I'm designing a colour detector for the blind. A wearable device for which a visually impaired person can sense the colour of clothes in a shop when browsing. The device would speak the colour. I was wondering if you'd be able to help me create through the arduino UNO, a working prototype - I have the TCS3200 sensor, breadboard, a microSD card shield for the arduino, and an 8ohm 0.5watt speaker. I'd like the colour to be spoken when it has been sensed. I've been trying to get this to work but i'm a beginner/amateur when it comes to arduino and coding. I've loaded in all the colour sound files .wav, and I am able to get the speaker to talk the sound file (too quietly unfortunately) but I'm having trouble putting it all together on the small arduino uno board. I'm not sure which pins to connect for all 3 parts to work together (Speaker, sensor, MicroSD). Any help on this project is much appreciated! I really enjoy watching your videos! Many thanks!

Using that xiaomi power bank, doesn't it turn off after 30 seconds? I have a similar but older model and the power bank turns off after 30 seconds.

Hi Nick,

Can you make a project with which one can get a notification with an LED when there is a new email with esp8266 in other words " ESP8266 unread email notification light".

Thanks in advance,
