Common Challenge 2023 – We Are NATO

More than 250 soldiers from the United States, Montenegro, Austria, Italy, and North Macedonia participated in Common Challenge in February 2023. The exercise that took place in the Montenegrin mountains was designed to jointly strengthen capabilities to conduct combat search and rescue, as well as mountain warfare tactics in winter conditions. The U.S. Army conducts trainings in all weather conditions while deployed to Europe. They work proudly with other NATO Allies and regional security partners to provide combat-credible forces.

The United States Army has over 50,000 troops in Europe right now, performing three missions:
• First, we are deterring aggression against NATO territory
• Second, we are reassuring our NATO Allies
• And third, we are standing in support of Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia’s invasion

U.S. soldiers are all over Europe under the command of V Corps, including in countries like Germany, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Baltics.
