In fact Western-type knights, although heavily armed, were no match for the Polish heavy cavalry - which dominated battlefields from XIV till the end of XVII century.
At this time (1410) it was armed in a Western way, but fought in Eastern way: together and what was important were not single knights, but the maneuvers and the charge power of entire unit ("chorągiew" = banner).

Plus in this battle still worked the medieval so-called "Old-Polish formation" : a constant fire from horse archers or crossbowmen from the rear ranks over heads of the heavily armed front ranks (such fire was not very accurate, but effective in mass). The very pinnacle of use of this fighting style was the next battle in this war, cavalry Battle at Koronowo (October 10, 1410) - at some point of combat the heavy knights even carried (!) foot archers on their horses behind the rider's back - which resulted in spectacular victory over Western-style knigts and mercenaries.
