Making a Mobile Car Detailing Setup using a Car / It's actually better than a van

I'm going to show you a SIMPLE AND PRACTICAL way of setting up your car so you can run a part time Car Cleaning Business / Side Hustle to save you the extra Money buying a second vehicle or a Van. This means You can Invest in Better Equipment, Better Products and even on Courses to help you become a better Car Cleaner.

I Also reveal the best way to store all your Car Detailing products and valeting Tools. So you can save weight in your car and come up with a fast way of organising all of your equipment.

Important things to consider if you go down this route: You need to tell your car insurance company that you are using your car for a business. Failing to do so can invalidate your insurance. You also need to keep lids on all Boxes because car cleaning chemicals can leave smells that will impact your health and those who travel with you. Also you need to be aware of how much weight you can carry in your car and not overload it as it will play a part in your safety.

I also believe this is a good short term solution but for long term I strongly advise you get a van once you are fully established. If you really do rely on your own power and water supply then this method may not be the best option for you. Its all about finding a solution to get your business off the ground.

Eventually you will grow and expand your business and get a new Van but for those beginners who still aren't sure yet it makes total sense.

I’m 20 and started JWR Detailing, van insurance is ridiculous so decided to work out of my car (golf at the time, now a clubman S). Works great, got a box on top and can fit all the things I need. Now booked for a month so seems to work for me!!

Keeping it simple is best. I run a setup out the back of my 2019 Mitsubishi Triton ute. 30L air compressor, vacuum, karcher high pressure, hose reels, chemical rack x12 bottles, 2 slider drawer systems, wash gear, polishing machine and microfiber tubs. I can get 99% of the work done with this setup without having to take anything else. Everything else stays on the garage shelves.
No one has even batted an eye for me not taking my own power or water either (Australia based).

The key is having a setup where it suits your style of detailing (maintenance / ceramic / heavy duty cleaning / full details) and spending the least amount of time mucking around finding and setting up / packing up equipment.

I have only recently found your channel and as an enthusiastic amateur who started off with a sponge and chamois leather 45 years ago cleaning (destroying) my dad’a car, I can honestly say that I have learned so much from you. What sets you apart is your willingness to try anything and everything, be completely objective and to think about it all not just from the point of view of a professional but what would work for an amateur or someone starting out as a detailer. I have yet to watch all of your content but have not yet seen any vacuum cleaner reviews, have I missed that or are you planning to do this in the future?

I wish you every possible success and thanks for taking the time to share your skills and opinions with us.

God help us !!!! When I think back to how it was back in those early days, iam surprised we didn't just walk away from car valeting. It just goes to show how much you can learn as time goes by. Hopefully people starting out in this business can learn from this and not make our mistakes. This is actually a well put together video that has been well thought out. Good luck everyone. I used to love washing and paint correcting mine and friends cars from an Alfa Romeo forum. I had decided to give it a go as a business but after having a few bouts of severe back pain, sadly was diagnosed with spinal stenosis.
I found it immensely calming to see cars transformed and the expression on the owners faces.

Congratulations! This is probably the best advice video you have made. It is very thought provoking. It has always been my core belief that you have to control your initial investments and be able to justify every purchase. I started my business in a building that should have been condemned. And stayed there until I could prove that I could afford to move. I hope your presentation gives inspiration to people starting out. Thank you.

The P57 is a beast, absolutely love mine. Glad I purchased before they went out of stock instead of waiting for the P70 restock.

I've got a van for mobile valeting, with a generator and water tank and all of that, but went out to a few jobs with my personal car instead. The bare minimum fitted perfectly in the boot (I drive an estate car, so the longer boot helped).
To be honest, using a car instead of a van, sometimes feels better, as you don't have to go through the clutter just to use the necessary bits.

I've been cleaning cars 3 days a week out of a Tesla Model 3. Plenty of room for hoses in the front. Chemicals, gernie, polishing gear and George the vacuum/extractor in the boot. 👍

I use a rolling metal cart with 3 levels that has mesh for the bottoms. So I just take out all the critical stuff like hoses, extension cords, pressure washer, etc.. to set up and then load the cart up with the chemicals, towels and tools I expect to use. Basically the same thing you're doing with the boxes but a little easier to move around together and I toss used towels or things that may be dripping on the lower levels of the cart so they can kinda dry before going back in the bins at the end.

You should start an online course going into more detail than the videos you have made in the past. Would help. Especially with sourcing clients, insurance etc

Thank you for the video Dave. Absolutely spot on about carrying the minimum number of items and vans not being essential. Most people are fine with using their water and electricity. If they're not, maybe question if you want them as a client, as the odds are they'll be a tight a*se whose never satisfied.

Great video Dave. It's honestly a really fair point about just doing it out of the car, because that's what I was looking at doing in a few months time when I come to start my own mobile valet. You can just use the customer's power and water if you are clear about it in advance. Yes, you may lose out on some people who expect you to use your own, but someone I spoke to recently said they're the sort of people that will give you all the grief anyways! Thanks for the video
