Some Photo Book Pickups | Documentary Photography

Some new photo books I've picked up that explore documentary photography. Books include 'Message From The Exterior' by Mark Ruwedel, '45' by Damian Heinisch, and 'A1 - The Great North Road' by Paul Graham. So I have a few books here, some are from more famous contemporary photographers and some are lesser-known photographers, but they’re equally just as interesting. So I’m just going to flick through these and briefly talk about some of the themes they explore, what I liked about them, and some of the smaller layout details like the paper quality and materials and all that, which will hopefully give you a rough idea of whether these books might interest you. I’m not going to go super in-depth because I think photobooks are such a personal thing, and I wouldn’t want to take that experience away from someone by telling them what they should know, but hopefully, this will be a good starting point.

So most of these are all documentary photography focused, which is the same kind of photography I am interested in, but in the future, I definitely plan on looking into other areas like fashion, landscape, and fine art photography to try and change up my inspirations and have a more rounded approach to consuming photography styles.

Great video Ben! I've actually heard of the first photographer. Great project. And so many abandoned houses/structures in that area, especially in the desert area outside of L..A. Its actually on my bucket list to do some abandoned photography out there, plus some of the desert National Parks like Joshua Tree. Beautiful books, thanks for bringing attention to these! Hope you are doing well. Have a great week and stay safe!

Paul Graham's probably my favourite of the three. Thanks for introducing them.

Some great books there, I'll have to check them out. The Mark Ruwedel one reminds me of Ed Freeman's Desert Reality images a bit, although Freeman has created a slightly more surreal effect by manipulating the images. I've seen the Paul Graham one before - some excellent shots. Great video. 👍

Inspiring, all authors I didn't know.
There is no way to send a private message on youtube (that I'm aware of) so I leave here a technical note and feel free to cancel the comment: at 7:15 and after you repeat the audio.
