For coloring books if you don't do different layering techniques, blending, etc and just color each area a solid color the budget ones are fine, but the reason the professional ones are more expensive is not because of the "name" brand, it is because of the lighfastness. Budget pencils are not lightfast. Pencils like the Holbein and Caran D'Ache are. That means that a professional artist can create a piece of art that will last for their clients and not fade and change color over time. And even if it isn't for a client, if you want your art to last you use lightfast. They use the same pigments that are in professional paints which are expensive, not dyes that are used for budget art supplies. Some of those pigments, like the cobalts and the cadmiums, are very expensive. Even the different colors in the same brand are priced drastically different based on the pigment(s) used. A tube of cobalt green or violet can be $50, whereas a tube of burnt umber is $12 in the same brand, same size.

Thank you tho for taking the time to compare them….it’s very helpful for coloring book artists and shows that you don’t have to have the super expensive supplies.

Very helpful video! I am very happy with budget supplies. I'm usually satisfied with my final page and i'm not selling it after all. I actually like the hard lead of a Crayola pencil for some projects. I blend and shade nicely with what I have. It's partly knowing how to blend and shade. Anyway it's about having fun for me and i'm doing that...enjoyed the music...Thanks so much!

If you are just “block” coloring and not worried about lightfastness then a child’s supply will work just fine. It’s when you blend, layer, and mix colors that you need an artist grade supply.

This was really good. I honestly didn’t see much difference if at all with the pencil sets. The only thing that struck me as obviously different was the marker sets. Very interesting and informative thanks for sharing.

Thanks Becks - that was a useful video. I liked the fact you left it up to the viewer to decide what would work for them. 🙂🦋

i think this was a great video! I am a budget girl, although I am fortunate enough to have a momma and a hubby who both think I DESERVE THE BEST, they do spoil me sometimes... With that being said, i have definitely splurged from time to time... but I will be HONEST, If and when I have to spend my own hard earned money, i love to save money where I can... so videos like this that show that art can be done on a budget... well this simply makes my heart happy! just for example, my momma bought me the FABER-CASTELL 36 polychromos. cost $59.99.. but i got myself the 120 Square BRUTFUNERS for only $35.99... and honestly i love them because i saved so much money and got so many more colors to play with, and they go down on paper just as well.

I think I'll always be a budget friendly gal. I'm well aware I don't really have artistic talents but do enjoy coloring. Not seeking to look like a professional artist, I could never justify the expense of Holbeins, etc. I appreciate this video as an informative one. And the background music was very relaxing to me and didn't take away from the video.

I found this video very helpful and informative. Thanks for taking the time to do the comparisons! I give your two thumbs up for math. I hate math! I've got the regular Marcos in my cart now. I have the Manga Marco pastel colors do you have them? I'm wondering if they are similar to the Marco pastel colors you used in this video. Thanks again! Oh and I enjoyed the music in the background and didn't hear any other noises. Stop apologizing!!!

Loved the comparison, I splurge every once in awhile, but for the most part, I'm mostly budget friendly lol! Great video❤️

Why did you mention Crayola when you don't use them in the video?

I guess if you do not do multi layering or blending, you do not know its real capability.

I didn’t hear you say if the Primrosia were alcohol or water based markers?? If they are water based, a second pass would destroy your page…it would ”eat“ your paper, just saying. As with the pencils, you can do good art weather you use less expensive brands or more expensive brands.💅🏻👍😘🥰❤️🇨🇦
