Cabin with glass sunroom becomes Oregon's ideal Nature lookout

When Joanna and Otto Lovera bought their home in Eugene, Oregon everything (walls, carpet, paint) was what she calls “band-aid color,” but they saw potential in the expansive windows with views of the Cascade Mountains and the little glass sunroom.

They turned the home a dark blue, ripped out the beige carpet, and turned the sunroom into a bedroom perfect for stargazing and nature-watching. While tucked in bed, they’ve been approached on all sides by deer, rabbits, and all kinds of birds.

The room can get cold and hot with the seasons, but a small heater or fan is sufficient for temperature control due to its tiny size. Otto explains that a dip in the hot tub on the surrounding porch and a good blanket can be sufficient for a winter evening. We spent a night appreciating the open-plan living and the immersive sleeping pod.

The Loveras bought this home which sat at the corner of their property: 47 acres of recently clear-cut land. In part two of this series, we’ll tour their restoration project, where they have begun to replant native trees and shrubs, allowing the Oak, Ash, and Maple trees to flourish, and clearing the riparian ways along the creek and springs. Along the way, they have recovered good wood from the loggers' old burn piles to build creative small structures throughout the property.

It's a lovely space. I would turn the bed with the end against the wall, so you look straight out over the garden.

I have really enjoyed the tour of this house in Eugene Oregon. I like the idea of turning that sunroom into an indoor outdoor bedroom. I really would enjoy lying in bed looking up at the stars and still being inside the comfort of a home. ✨✨🤗✨

"Like" 👍 showed up on my 2007 laptop long before the video could even start loading, so I went ahead and hit "like, " then went for coffee. Can't lose with Kirsten Dirksen.

We are rebuilding a tiny fixer upper with no experience so this is inspiring! Love your videos of alternative and creative living!

Oh yeah...I could live there.
It's cool that folks are building, or buying places to be used as an Airbnb, but when you find something like this, for me, it would be difficult to let go, and not want to make it my primary residence.
As always, thanks for sharing.

Beautiful. My only problem is that its another AB&B, when people are looking for homes to live in and not have the price driven up, for profits. Don't mean to be a downer, but...

Great idea to have the bedroom in the solarium. The views must be spectacular! Thank you for this video.

I love the Spacious feeling of this secluded Cabin in the Woods! The Glass Room is a show stopper, you are out in Nature, but Not! It is safe, Dry, and entertaining. I image the Stars at night must be phenomenal! Who does the Windows? How do they do the top inside and outside? A very special space. Yes, Builders should be more aware of what pleases the Occupant, not just throw a house anywhere without consideration of many important Aspects. Too many plain boxes today, no imagination!

Yes to the glass enclosure.
No to it being a bedroom.
Too much interference from light, lightening, and that pitter patter of rain will get annoying.
But a cozy cabin, nonetheless.
Beautiful setting.

I love this but I can't help but think of how much more beautiful that bedroom would be with a few big, beautiful, indoor plants to really marry it with the gorgeous view.

Kirsten, i like the way you shoout your videos, they are very immersive in a way that viewer becomes a part of owner's family but not guest.

So they have snow there, a 45 degree angled roof, a glass ceiling below it and a person sleeping under. There is a better nickname for it than 'the fishbowl' - 'the deathtrap'.

Most of the video was spent on and about the nothing special glass room. I bet uncomfortably hot and cold. I think what I like the most was the setting and nature, but even that was no big deal. 🤷

I would feel very much at home there, though I would either coat the bedroom windows with a product where I can see out, but the outside cannot see inside, or maybe a wide frosted strip across the top and middle of the windows. All in all, the feeling the place depicts is one of balance and serenity. Thank You Dirksens, for sharing this location and Thank You Joanna and Otto for allowing the share. ( :

lol, way back when, they were called 'sleeping porches' and everyone used them during the summer....(they didn't have glass ceilings though, that's an improvement).
