Fat Joe Remembers Prodigy

This past Tuesday, just hours after we got the news of Prodigy’s passing, Fat Joe passed through MASS APPEAL HQ for an Open Space interview. Of course we had to take time out to discuss P’s legacy.

“Tons of rappers study Mobb Deep,” said Joe. “When you talk about the New York sound, you know, nothing is more authentic and true to the New York sound than Mobb Deep.”

It was a blazing hot day in NYC and the Bronx icon was in state of disbelief. He had recently shared the stage with Mobb Deep at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. “I saw Prodigy last week,” said Joe, slicing a green apple and sipping a water. “He looked amazing… We on borrowed time.”

Prodigy definitely Mount Rushmore. Biggest hip hop cult figure, didn't need a pop hit & radio success to make an impact. Strictly raw New York. Top 5 to ever do it ... Never understood how people could get sad over a celebrity but this one struck hard. Mobb raised a lot of us. I felt nothing sorry to say with Bowie, Prince, Whitney etc but this one hit proper. There'll never be another. Will tell my kids about Prodigy over music debates

"I rap like no one out there can fuck with me". Timeless

I've been listening to Mobb Deep since the 90's. Taking a closer look at Prodigy & everything he stood for I really believe he wasn't afraid. No one is ever ready, especially that he was only 42, but I really believe Prodigy wasn't afraid to die he told us who he was all those years in his lyrics a true soldier.

Love the fact that a NY legend like Joe gives another NY legend Prodigy his props. Fat Joe on many occasions praised Mobb Deep and you can tell hes sincere when talking about Prodigy.
