My son is doing pg in a Govt hospital in Mumbai. Doing 48 hours double emergency duties, doesn’t have a decent place to rest. Sometimes takes rest in a small place filled with hundreds of cockroaches Every school has atleast a small staff room for teachers. Why Govt is not providing a decent room for doctors. How safe are our children after studying so hard to get into medical profession. 😢

I admitted in one medical college hospital. There I have seen pg student more than 24 hours continuously working there. I have asked him why your not talking rest and your continuously working. He just smiled and left the space.

1) no place to stay, change dress in a 48 hr duty.
2) no toilet.
3) no proper drinking water( most doctors have urinary tract infection - i have had continuous abdomen painon duty because i dint pee)
4) patient attenders have raised their hands on me. - just because i say not to wear their slippers inside ICU
5) I Have worked in hunger. Time irukathu. I cant eat money .
6) we will be in a state where we cant open our eye. But an ambulance sound will wake us .
7) begging in blood bank for 1 unit .. as if my patients are my brother and sister. To make things run fast.
8) patients dont understand the explanation we give. But we do for patients well being.
This is our health system.
No one will help.
No one cares .
And... We are used to this suffering and the words people say"they get money for what they do"
If someone gives money - will u die ??" We do sacrifice our health for ur health!!

I'm a doctor from Malaysia. A third generation Malaysian. I have done oncall too for 24 to 48 hours. There are hidden dangers when doing night shifts. The hospital does provide us with medical officers resting rooms. But sometimes we won't have time to sleep. I have had colleagues who got robbed at car parking when they went to rest in their cars during night shift. But in these 13 years plus I've worked, never heard a fellow female doctor assaulted or killed. Even if there is, the ministry or our fellow Malaysians netizens will defend us. As a woman and a doctor, I feel extremely disgusted with this. Furthermore, I often travel to Kolkata.this is extremely disappointing.

I am a retired Dr. now, went to med school in Chennai, did my training in US and worked in Emergency Department till my retirement few years ago. During my training in 1989, one of my CCU heart attack patient happened to be a prisoner. Recovered and went back to prison but few days later escaped from prison. I was so scared because I could spot him easily. The hospital security used to accompany me to my room every one of my shift for almost 2 months till they found him. That’s the security I got even though I was stupid to think he would still be around the hospital.
Thank you MG. Drs do need protection in India and they do need Resident room to rest at night. I have lost patients in ER but family would never ( should never say never) physically attack the drs.

Madan, thanks for speaking about this issue. My daughter is a P G.student in our Govt college. She and her colleagues work for 36 hours and sometimes more than 50 hrs. They don't eat, they don't sleep sometimes for more than 20 hours. They are not even provided a cup of tea or any drink. They become so tired.
சில சமயம் 10 நாட்கள் கூட 3 மணி நேரம் தான் தூங்க முடியும். ஆனால் 5 நிமிடம் தாமதமாக பணிக்குச் சென்றால் மிகவும் மோசமாக நடத்தப்படுவதுடன், வசைகளை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு தனது கடமைகளை சரியாக செய்ய வேண்டும்.
அவர்களும் மனுஷங்க தானே. உயிரைக் காப்பாற்ற வேண்டிய பணியில் இருக்கிறார்கள்.
அவர்களுக்கும் ஓய்வு தேவை. உணவு தேவை.
My daughter has become almost depressed. She loves medicine. That's why she is still working. But very badly illteated by her seniors and other staff.
Parents நாங்கள் இரத்தக் கண்ணீர் வடிக்கிறோம்.
No particular duty time for them. They come back at any time between a 11 O'clock night and early morning. No safety. No security for them. Nobody is bothered about them. We parents cannot do anything because they stay in the hostel. We will be praying for them all the time. That's all.
After hearing this brutal death of Kolkata student, we are very much worried.
I request the public to support the medicos who are really dedicating their lives for the public. Madan, you do the needful to change their practice of literally sucking the blood of P.G.students in govt colleges in n the name of training them. .Please. once again thank you so much.
