TEN THOUSAND ANGELS

(1) They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where He prayed;

They led Him thro' the streets in shame.

They spat upon the Saviour so pure and free from sin;

They said, "Crucify Him; He's to blame."

CHORUS:

He could have called ten thousand angels

To destory the world and set Him free.

He could have called ten thousand angels,

But He died alone for you and me.

(2) Upon His precious head they placed a crown of thorns;

They laughed and said, "Behold the king."

They struck Him and they cursed Him and mocked His holy name.

All alone He suffered ev'rything.

(2) To the howling mob He yielded; He did not for mercy cry.

The Cross of shame He took alone. And when He cried, "It's finished," He gave himself to die;

Salvation's wondrous plan was done.

Great song. I didn't know until recently that the man who wrote it (Ray Overholt) was unsaved when he did so -- he just wanted to write a gospel song. He wasn't very knowledgeable about the Bible, and didn't realize until afterwards that Jesus said he could have called 12 legions of angels, which equals more than 60, 000. The song had such and impact upon his own life, that he got saved.

I'm not religious but was raised singing this song acapella every Sunday. My father was taken off life support April 1st and it was so unexpected and sudden and traumatic I couldn't help but start singing this to block out the sounds. It got me thru, I'm thankful. I'm grateful for this.

I'm glad He didn't stay dead in the tomb! We know the rest of the story. It's Friday, but Sunday is coming!

He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:3-6

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father and He shall presently give me more than 12 legions of angels? Matthew 26:53

Ray Overholt born in 1924 in Gaines, Michigan. ✍️“I was playing in a country band at a tavern, a dance hall, in Battle Creek, when I wrote the song, ” Overholt said. “Why God selected me to write the song, I don’t know. I drank a lot, was a profane individual and I needed a Savior.” 📖 He turned to the Bible to research his song. I opened the Bible and began to read the portion of Scripture that describes Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, telling Peter to put away his sword, ” Overholt said. “I read where Jesus told Peter that he could ask his Father and he would send twelve legions of angels. I didn’t know at the time that that would have been more than 72, 000 angels.” 📖 {Matthew 26:53} Overholt went on to describe how the song brought him to the Savior. “Sometime later I found myself singing at a small church. I sang this song. Following my singing, a preacher spoke a message that gripped my heart. I knew I needed Christ. So I knelt there and accepted, as my Savior, the One whom I had been singing and writing about.” Song written by Overholt in 1958 🎥 Movie: The Passion Of The Christ
