“How would you like your salad?”

“Uhm, fresh, and in a bowl, maybe? If that’s possible.”

I always feel so bad when I have misunderstandings with people like that. like I know it’s not either of our faults, it’s just language works, but it feels horrible getting someone to repeat what they said only for it to not make sense again 😭😭

im mexican, and i moved to USA for about 4 years...i was a highschooler and my english was very poor so i remember i got asked what was my favorite dish from México 😅 and i really thought they were asking me for dishes...you know...cups, plates or pans etc😂...i remember thinking... why is that important to know about me?😂 and i said...i dont know...eeem i dont have a favorite dish...but i prefer the glass ones because plastic dishes are more like for kids😂 and i remember the confussing expresion in her face and she just continued with a..ok so what about favorite food? but i never knew that she meant food by saying dish😂so for a while i thought that person was just weird and that she really liked dishes😂...until...you know, a teacher explained what dish meant for them during a class😂 i felt the other person might thought i was dumb back then😂

Poor Jessie, ordering food in many US restaurants CAN be confusing - even when English is your FIRST language. Many years ago, I bought an ice cream cone, and was asked "You want jimmies?" Me - "Sorry, what?" "You want jimmies?" "Sorry, I didn't understand…" Finally they gave me a look of complete disgust, then asked "Do - you - want - (long pause) - sprinkles?"

I had some friends visiting from another country ... they went to a restaurant and ordered pizza. They were asked what toppings they wanted and were confused. They pointed at the menu and asked "can you make it like the picture?" :p .

That was me during my first visit to Japan. Just say yes to the last option... probably why I always got water with my meal (it's always the last thing they ask you!) 😅😅😅

Omg i felt the same! I hated going to restaurants because you could never just order from the menu. They always ask so many questions and you have no idea what they asking about lol
