BMW M3 Touring - brief blast in the ultimate wagon | Autocar

People have wanted a BMW M3 Touring for as long as Munich’s sports saloon has been on the road, but the firm has stubbornly refused to build one, save for a concept based on the E46-generation M3 that it kept secret for upwards of ten years.

However, that’s finally changed. It’s taken nearly 40 years and six generations of M3, but you can now walk into a BMW dealership and place an order for an M3 that you can take on a tip run.

Only available in top-rung Competition spec, the M3 Touring is powered by the turbocharged S58 straight-six, sending a whopping 503bhp to all four wheels. That means it’ll hit 0-62mph in just 3.6sec, and it won’t stop accelerating until it hits 174mph.

The modern obsession with "aggressive" looks, diffusers, 21"+ wheels, hard suspension and carbon fibre on wagon/estates/tourings has lost sight of the original concept of a fast estate car in my eyes. They should be under the rader, ordinary looking, subtle, blend in with traffic but hang on to a supercar if you want them to. The last car of this type was the C7 Audi S6. These are all £100, 000 millenial playstation cars now.

100k is actually pretty cheap for the performance! This is faster 60-120 mph than an RS6 …

I would hope it’s better than an RS4… because it’s now the price of a fully loaded RS6! You said it’s £100K? That’s sticker price, no dealer will sell you one for less than £110K and that’s not with all the ‘bits’ you want. Looks menacing, will take your expert opinion that it’s the best of its class… but it’s no longer in its class at the prices I’m seeing them listed even by BMW dealers. Bonkers.

Promoting EVs is fine and paying ppl incentives to buy them is fine as well, but banning sales of ICE cars in 10 years from now is just authoritarian. Europe is turning into a dictatorship. You are told what to drive, what to eat and what to believe in and your kids belong to the system....
