New coin machines have a built in error code if you pull the coin back out

I use to do this all the time back in the 80's at video arcades. But the way I did it was not to try and get the quarter back, but to rack up a lot of credits by tickling the credit switch. Instead of using a string and drilling a hole in to the quarter, I would use a really thin fishing line and super glue it to the edge of the quarter. That way, after racking up a shitload of credits on the machine by pulling the line in and out and hitting the credit switch. I could then pull the fishing line out and it would break off the quarter and the quarter would then drop into the coin box with no tall tale sign of being mess with. BTW: coin mechs in gaming machine are far less secure the those on vending machines. I have never seen the string trick work in a vending machine before.

I imagine that if it did once work, it no longer does because they found a way to make sure the quarter could not be pulled out again. People doing that trick back in the 80s might have lead to the creation of the little arm with the teeth to prevent it from working.
What about if the string is long enough to let the quarter only go part way through to open the gate, but not go beyond it?

Lol, was trying to double check to see if Bender’s trick from the Suicide Booth would work, but I’m surprise the program seals the quarter without having the chance of pulling it back out. Glad to know it before I even start trying. 😅

The ejection slot might be hacked using a strong wire or bra's curvy wire to make way for the coin

What if you get a 2ed one and use that 2ed quarter. To hold open the mech and then pull the 1st one out as well?

Ya it dont work on newer coin acceptors. As kids in the 80"s this was possible on a lot of video games. So not a myth.

I don't know where I heard it but new vending machines can detect strings and cut them off

Pro tip:

I tried the string on a toonie trick and it was the same deal. Had a guard so the coin wouldnt come back out.

So the next time i tried it. I shaved the edges of the toonie to make them sharp. was able to slip past the guard with less than 10 tugs 100% of the time.

True with today's e-claws, yet this myth always works on antique claws pre-1980. Unless you make a "tongue" which is a slim jim made out soda cans/thin scrap metal(similar to the hook device used for coin operated slots), then there is no other way of cheating credits besides using a dollar bill and a lot of packing tape.
