Shakira is an actual belly dancer. Swords and knives are often used in this style of dance. This is only weird if you haven't seen belly dancing before. It is also obvious that she is crowd surfing in a very planned way with hired people to make sure she gets where she is supposed to. You can see how the crowd parts for that, as if they were previously instructed on how they have to behave.
