I am a 70 year old woman with chronic severe back pain, I can see how one would get addicted to opioids. But when you’re in horrific pain, you don’t think straight.

This is s great example of why judges shouldn't be involved in medical care at all.

Who does he think he is a judge cannot stop you from taking medication prescribed to you.

I've had 5 back surgeries, fusion in my lower back and fusion in my neck., within a 2 year period. But for the Grace of God, I didn't get addicted to Oxyconton. I thank God every day for this blessing. Sometimes I wonder why I didn't become addicted to opiates. I know many people who did .

The judge is grandstanding and operating outside of his license. The defendant needs a solid attorney

A judge legally cannot tell you not to take your own medicine a doctor prescribed. I’m on probation, and I’m prescribed my medical marijuana card. A judge told me I’m not allowed to use it, and I told them actually you’re wrong, by Michigan law, if it’s prescribed prior to any convictions, then it’s a valid prescription. She was pissed, but she couldn’t do anything.

This is also why ALL JUDGES should have a team of advisory staff who are experts in every field.

No, he's wrong. They took Oxycotin off the market. Oxycodone is slightly different and they never took it off the market.

I broke my back and hip in a really bad ATV accident and I was prescribed oxycodone for pain, I used it as directed and it was a huge life saver for the pain I was in. Some people need this medication. A judge cannot say what a doctor gives you is good or not!

Some people just don’t understand pain management and it sickens me. I feel so sorry and bad for everyone who has chronic pain, like actual real pain and has trouble getting opioid medication.

This is dangerous. A local level judge should not even touch the subject of a citizen’s medical intervention unless it’s a malpractice suit. I agree it is a dangerous drug but that is between the doctor and patient. This judge went too far even speaking on it. He should have focused on the charges and if he felt someone this medicated should not have a driving privilege then deal with that.

I usually like this jusge, but in this case he's out of bounds.

He has no jurisdiction to determine whether or not a person is allowed to take a prescribed medicine. Addictive or not.

That Judge is so out of line. I have been prescribed Oxycodone for the last 8 years and it is the only thing that helps my chronic pain. I have never abused it or needed more per day. It has improved my quality of life and if taken responsibly, it is a great medication. You just need a good doctor that can monitor your condition. That Judge is not a Doctor and has no business even speaking about it.

This one is embarrassing. I usually like Fleischer but as a judge you think he would understand that he has no right to intervene in his medical treatment. Physicians and pharmacists aren't stupid, they know it's addictive and they prescribe it *especially in cases of spine injury* because neurological pain is so intense and can really be resistant to other forms of pain treatment. And then he's on record saying things about a drug that he obviously doesn't know anything about other than it's addicting. You have a problem with it? Call the prescribing pharmacist.

A judge does not have the credentials, education, or experience to give medical advice. Judge is out of bounds.

I took it for 7 years and never had an issue getting off it at all

This makes me SO angry. As somebody who has been disabled and on pain medication for 21 years due to an injury, it's this garbage that makes it difficult for us to be treated compassionately!! We're treated like addicts!! I've never once felt a high because my body needs the meds. I'd like to see the people with this type of attitude live with chronic pain for ONE WEEK and see how their outlook on this changes!! 🤬

The judge has NO RIGHT to dictate what a Dr prescribes, even tho he is right. But he shouldn't be able to tell him not to take what's prescribed to him.

I love Judge Fleischer and have never disagreed with him before today. This one really hit a nerve. I'm a chronic pain patient with a very severe back injury for an on the job work injury. I have been taking narcotics for 10 years. I'm not addicted to my meds even though I am dependant and would go through withdrawl if I stopped my meds. Doctors, especially in the past decade, really consider all factors before prescribing medications and only prescribe narcotics when they REALLY need them. Does he think he's smarter or knows more about medicine than a doctor? He needs to stay in his lane. Don't take legal advice from doctors nor medical advice from lawyers.
