12" Out Now:

For the next official reissue Isle Of Jura goes back to 1976 to resurrect ‘Anambra’, the jewel in the crown of Dub, Soul & Funk outfit Ozo. ‘Anambra’ is something of a classic, a unique song that’s slow, ritualistic and spiritual, mixing African & Nyabinghi drumming with a Buddhist Sanskrit mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’. An alternate version ‘Anambra River’ appears for the first time on the same 12”. Completely Re-mastered for 2017 and housed in the original full sleeve artwork with worldwide distribution by Rush Hour.

Sharon White introduced me to this beautiful piece of music 🎶 at The Saint NYC. The best Club in the 80's and 90's. ❤❤❤

David was a pioneer and anything he played at the Loft Prince St NYC was an instant hit throughout the music community. The ambience that he delivered was just amazing, he allowed me to be up in his booth to see how he played, nothing less than audiophile 100 fold ~ amazing.

I loved when David Mancuso played this recording. Love this music in my life.

Dave Mancuso would always play this track to signal the end of the festivities but dancers at the Loft did not want it to ever end. 😂

Cosmic c67 by Daniele Baldelli- TBC, grazie a lui certi artisti sono più conosciuti e seguiti come meritano, quando un dj diventa divulgatore....👍

The first full album of OZO was called 'Listen to the Budda' of which this piece was part of.
Their next and probably the last album was "Museum of Mankind".
Their first album was just .. beautiful !!

~ Classic u7nderground track misunderstood still in 2018 ~ The original L.P. version is to be played at 45 rpm speed - that was how it was played in The Loft NYC and at every club in New Orleans in the 1970s. We never used the 45: only the album version at 33 1/3 rpm speeded up to 45 rpm. Then and only then does the album track make any sense on the dancefloor. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~

The main melody for this seems to be taken from the Cuban standard "Tabu", known to most Reggae heads as "Africa We Want To Go" recorded by The Gaylads/Dennis Brown/Count Ossie and many others I'm sure. Amazing!

This is one of the Last records that was played at the PARADISE GARAGE in Sept of 1987.

What is the story behind this song? I've known it since I was teenager in the 70s. I always wondered what it was about.

There's a way to mix this with Paul Mauriat's "Love is still Blue" break, playing them both at the same time. Of course you need to use the speeds on both turntables.
1st time I heard that mix was at the Montreal's LimeLight with of course (duh) Robert Ouimet at the controls. Now considered the Godfather of Disco and all sort of music in Canada.
