Israeli UVision Air & Aditya Precitech JV For Loitering Munition | PALM (Precision Attack Loitering Munition) Hero Systems

Now a days drone are gathering more attention with the defence sources. To be specific, a loitering munition which is also known as a suicide drone is becoming too popular. Loitering munition is a weapon system category in which the munition loiters around the target area for some time, searches for targets, and attacks once a target is located.

Loitering munitions shares characteristics of cruise missiles and unmanned combat aerial vehicles. Unlike cruise missiles, they are designed to loiter for a relatively long time around the target area, and unlike unmanned combat aerial vehicles, they are expended in an attack and has a built-in warhead. Some loitering munitions use a human operator to locate targets whereas others, such as IAI Harop, can function autonomously searching and launching attacks without human intervention.

Some loitering munitions may return and be recovered by the operator if they are unused in an attack and have enough fuel; in particular this is characteristic of UAVs with a secondary explosive capability. Now, why are we discussing about loitering munitions??

As mentioned about the popularity of the loitering munitions, India will be working with Israeli UVision Air as a joint venture to manufacture loitering munitions under the brand PALM (Precision Attack Loitering Munition) Hero Systems. This joint venture will be between Israeli UVision Air and Aditya Precitech.

The JV, called AVision will explore various opportunities in India for Loitering Munitions Systems including the design, manufacture, sales, maintenance, support, upgrading, and lifecycle management. The partners will also maintain a supply of spare parts for the warranty and post-warranty periods for current and future versions of the smart munitions systems.

The main reason behind manufacturing such loitering munitions is to offer the same to India’s military, paramilitary forces as an effective response to multiple threats with minimal collateral damage.
