Lightning strikes One World Trade Center as Lee is on-air

Meteorologist Lee Goldberg was on-air, updating viewers on the latest forecast when lightning struck the spire on top of One World Trade Center.

All tall buildings “attract” lightning, there are grounded rods that protect the antennas, otherwise no one would put their antenna up there to be zapped all the time. (My college radio station antenna got hit (this was over 20 years ago). While it did have a grounded rod, the angle of the strike still nailed the antenna itself. They had to replace most of the on-site equipment as it all got sent back in time and returned with all the magic smoke missing.
