Tool for Waste Management Considerations for Viral Load and Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) Testing Laboratories and Associated Healthcare Facilities
In the May 2019 Waste Management session, Dr Katrina Sleeman, Associate Service Fellow in the Viral Load/Early Infant Diagnosis Team at the CDC ILB introduced a draft of a viral load WM checklist tool that can be used as baseline audit of select country VL labs. The tool aims to assist in creating awareness of best practices and identifying gaps for waste management processes in HIV molecular testing laboratories and associated healthcare facilities. It is intended for use by Site Managers or Safety Officers for making decisions on how the assessed site can develop and implement best practices for their location. It is still being finalised following multiple stakeholder consultation, and will be piloted in a few select countries in the next quarter.
