Adding Structures to a Resilient Permaculture Design: More Garden Isn’t Always the Answer

Sometimes it can be tempting to think that the best way to do permaculture is to turn every possible space into MORE GARDEN. But permaculture isn't just about gardens. It's about resilient human communities that interact with the environment in a sustainable way. And so, that includes structures, from houses to workplaces to community centers to sheds and garages and studios.

Permaculture integrates our garden design with wild spaces, and with our structures so that they all work together to increase efficiency and promote abundance.

Hello,
I'm writing from the Caribbean. Let me just say that your channel is by far the best permaculture channel I have seen. Even though I am in a much warmer zone, the education you provide is invaluable. I now finally understand the concept of guilds, companion planting, stacking etc. None of the other channels I've seen have come even close. Your commitment to education is humbling. As a very experienced teacher I can see you have a gift for it. Your channel deserves to blow up. I am unable to contribute at the moment but I will as soon as I can. In the meantime I will like every video I see. I subscribed while watching the second video of yours. Since then I've been binge watching. Thank you and please take good care of yourself.

As a fellow recovering over productivity case, I'd love to see a day in the life video of how you structure your homemaking and permaculture into a standard day and pivot when things don't go to plan.

Good information! I appreciate how you explain the why and also highlight the integration piece: non human animals, humans, plants and designing the space. I’ve learned more about permaculture from watching/listening to you than I have from reading the literature. Although the literature has helped, I find the real life application is key for my understanding. Thank you again!

Love the jig, great way to make work more efficient! I struggle with over productivity at times too. So frustrating when things don't happen in the timeline you had planned. I am working on accepting the natural flow of things instead of enforcing my control, but it is a hard habit to break

Hi Angela! I have not seen a lot of rose videos on your channel but you reference them often: Especially the David Austin's. Would you please be willing to give us a tour of your roses? I just purchased poet's wife this year and it just started to grow. I'm particularly excited.

I have a shed already built. All the way at the back of my 1/3 acre lot. Behind the little orchard. Stuck in a corner.

Obviously I don’t do anything with it.

Maybe I should think about bringing it to the front of the yard somewhere, closer to my house. Because otherwise it will literally be empty forever.

Oh dammit, I thought I was at fault for the record rainfall (I put in a grey watering system) but I see that you're to blame!! That greenhouse is gonna be gorgeous when you're done with it! Try to be patient, I'm sure the weather will be dry soon. I love your beautiful old brick foundation.

We might be looking at putting in a new shed in future, because the shed we have is a wreck. I hope you do progress videos.

I'd love a video on kinds of plants to grow on structures! I'm struggling with that right now - what's "safe" to grow close to and over our shed without damaging it, and should it be something I'm not going to harvest since it'll be so out of reach? I think I killed a small tree I had planned to espalier beside the wall of the shed, underestimating how much water the roof would dump on it. But in my espalier research, they talk so often about why you need to avoid espaliering directly onto a wall or fence, so now I'm not sure what to do with the "available space" around and above my plastic shed.

Regarding "over productivity"... I'm reading Gifted Adult by Mary-Elaine Jacobsen atm, and my guess is this is an expression of your inherent Intensity, Complexity and Drive. Recommend reading, if you haven't already.

Would love to see more videos on your turkeys. How they were sexed where you will keep them at night . Where will they live in your garden

I was watching one of your earlier videos and it looked like you had an outdoor oven/stove setup (potentially wood?). Do you have any videos about that?
