What was written on it? That would have been better

They use the designation "before common era", BCE, and that always strikes me as being a less than accurate way to date things because common era means one thing now, but what will it mean in 300 years and beyond? When is it not- or for how long does it remain- "common" era? In order to remove an a religious association it seems that they made a more ambiguous, subjective, and arbitrary measurement of Time.

I met a black man in Canada 🇨🇦 with what looked like Egyptian hyroglyphs on his hard hat 👷at work, your name in hyrogliphics? I asked. He laughed 🤣 and said, those are not Egyptian, and that the Egyptians didn't even know what they meant. They got them from someone else in Africa. Not sure i believe him, but not well enough studied in those things to say otherwise. It would be interesting to know where he says they come from, and who used them before the Egyptians. If he's right...
