Totally agree with the thrust of this piece. The interesting problem in this lies in just how the US will cope with the required challenges when the combination of AI and robotics sweep away not just "rust belt" jobs but also much of the up until now safe, "professional" roles. Because most European countries have quite advanced social/welfare structures, it will be easier for them to adjust to smaller but highly paid and taxed workforces whilst in effect paying people Not to Work formally but instead to participate in voluntary activities that benefit society as a whole.

The US does not have an existing social platform to work from which raises the question of how it will cope. If automation over these past 30 years has bought us Donald Trump, "America First" and a highly polarized country, the future of social cohesion in the US isn't looking too good.

Hey Financial Times, why do you not allow comments on your "undercover"
video of a "Men ONLY" charity event in which it turns out 130 women were
there? Don't you appreciate women? Weren't you happy to know the truth?
