George Bernard Shaw (26 July 1856 – 2 November 1950), known at his insistence simply as Bernard Shaw, was an Irish playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923). With a range incorporating both contemporary satire and historical allegory, Shaw became the leading dramatist of his generation, and in 1925 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

22:18 “ If you’d known all I had to put up with in my life. You would say heaven would defend me for living that man’s life. However I don’t complain. it doesn’t matter if one dies poor which I’m not going to do by the way, but as long as our life is happy. And the ways to have a happy life is be to busy doing what you like all the time. Having no time left for you to consider weather your happy or not…” - George Bernard Shaw.

I adore and love George Bernard Shaw. He was a profoundly humane human being. A literary genius for all time.

Love this channel and GBS, whom I share a birthday with. He's the author of my favorite saying when it comes to responding to trolls on the internet and elsewhere, "Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it." Miss hearing Mike Wallace's voice. Grew up hearing him on 60 minutes. (RIP Mike) 📺

You have to hand it to him, he flip-flammed himself through a lot of his life.

Amazing how Oscar Wilde was a year younger than him. If Wilde hadn't died he could have lived up to the age of Shaw

I love him as a playwright, I now also love him as a person. I confess I knew little about his life. Thank you for this documentary, it has helped me to answer some questions I had concerning certain characters in his plays. Also, reading some of the comments here, I see that he was, as always, right.

I have very mixed feelings on George Bernard Shaw. First of all, he was a brilliant writer. He had a tremendous wit, but it also seems like he had no heart. His Social Darwinist views were also quite repulsive. Without a doubt, he was an enthralling man, but also a very flawed one.

Shaw was one of the founders of The Fabian Socialist Society . His ideals have come home to roost, and tear America apart. Glen Beck did a important docu show The Democratic Hydra about the Fabians . George Soros is a Fabian for example .

This biography should be re-shot, starring Will Ferrell as GBS.

So much lacking, imho, in this biography. Privately he was very generous and kind to the villagers in Ayot St Lawrence where he lived. Yes, he was odd, but it was all an act---a very witty, brilliant act. Pygmalion (My Fair Lady) will always be my favorite.

Something was wrong with his soul. He obviously had a terrible up bringing. Instead of getting stronger, he didn't have the right kind of help and took a turn for the worst
