What amazed me when we visited was you could walk right by the parliament building. No fences or guards.

Wasn’t that a fun place to walk around! We were there on 2019, unfortunately hubby wasn’t feeling good that day so stayed on the ship. I went walking around and loved it.😁

This was such a surprise when we visited. We didn’t know what to expect and weren’t sure we would like it. It actually was one of our favorite places.

Constantly referring to “former Soviet Union” is kinda insensitive, it gives the wrong idea. It’s not the 90s anymore. You don’t constantly refer to Germans as the former Nazis. Soviet Union is NOT part of the identity of the land or its people. They are both older than Soviet Union, which was something forced upon it (1940-1941, 1944-1991). That Orthodox Church is not at all a typical church for Estonia. It is one of the younger churches (early 20th c.) and built by Russian Empire (Estonia was part of it 1721-1917, which is also how long that empire existed) as a symbol of its political power. It is not indicative of Estonia. Estonians are predominantly Lutherans.

Thanks for visiting but for the love of god, please stop calling the country "former soviet". The nation is older than the USSR and the people were oppressed and forced into the empire against their will. You might as well call Germans former nazis or Americans former English by that logic.
