Love Pollinators? This Plant Attracts SO MANY BEES!

One of my favorite way to attract bees and other pollinators into my yard is to allow my alliums to flower. The allium family includes popular garden staples like onions, bunching onions, leeks, shallots and garlic. The plants specifically featured in this video are leeks. They've been in ground for over a year and are going into their biennial flowering cycle. These bumble bees absolutely LOVE them! The leeks are still edible, too, so you can pull them for use whenever you'd like. However, now that they're flowering, they won't last too much longer before becoming too mature and splitting apart, so don't let them stick around beyond their edible range unless you don't plan on eating them and would rather have them to re-seed the ground.

I grew artichokes just to watch the bees inside the flower. I don't even like artichokes. But sometimes gardening is about the aww and amazement in watching nature do its thing

The flowers are beautiful, too! There's so much life! Lavender attracts many bees, as well!

I grow onions as companion plants for pest control, and allow them to go to seed. The flowers look the same and are equally attractive for all sorts of wild bees.

Bonus is that they will reseed freely as well, and you can have millions of leek babies next year! I always let mine go to seed - for the BEES and the VOLUNTEERS!!

I tell people at work and on my channel that pollinators are in the top 5 of must haves in a garden. Bees do more than we think.

Beautiful. Every year I grow onions from the store in a grow bag. They go to flower because they grow as a second year onions. I think they are beautiful. Yes, the bees are all over them. 😊

Every year I let volunteer leeks grow for the insects. Every kind of bee and wasp imaginable - large and small. In return, they help keep my pest insects under control!

I let my oregano flower every year and it's the best pollinator I've ever seen, it's covered in bees all summer!

Thanks for this info. Just bought couple of chive plants this morning. I did not know that they attract bees. I should go back tomorrow and buy more chive plants. Appreciate the information.

I want to create a bumblebee habitat. I have planted a bunch of different onions and chives. Are there any other plants that bumblebee are especially attracted to?

I just got out of my hives. My smoker ran out and I’ll be back out there after I eat. Hive beetles are bad this year with all the rainfall.

I planted allium this year for the first time, I was wondering if they were good for anything once they quit blooming but still have spikes.
