However, it gained a bad reputation in the 1960s when a letter to a medical journal linked it to the 'Chinese Restaurant Syndrome' - a set of symptoms reported after eating Chinese restaurant food, like headaches, sweating, chest pain, and numbness around the mouth and neck.
