Why Lego CAN’T Bring Back Bionicle - LEGO gave their fans a chance to bring back a Classic theme for their 90th year anniversary and it seems like Bionicle is in the lead. Well, I think LEGO Bionicle is going to win and I'm disappointed. Brother From Another Brick

“I’m upset a theme is more popular then I want it to be” type video.

I find it hilarious how he treats us like little kids. “The lego people brought back your favorite toys, but you didn’t buy them, you ungrateful little shits!” Hell, I didn’t even *KNOW* there was a reboot until it was too late! That’s Lego’s fault, not mine. They should’ve marketed it more.

I'm getting pretty sick of this "You guys asked for it, but you didn't buy it" talking point.

Bionicle G2 flopped in big part because lego didn't market it anywhere near as effectively or aggressively as the first time around. When it came to attracting kids' attention, they expected older Bionicle fans to do the heavy lifting and market the reboot for them through word of mouth, telling their little cousins and siblings, nieces and nephews about a time before time. By then though, those oldschool Bionicle fans were in college. They were in their "dark age" falling out of the LEGO hobby altogether as the pressures of "adulting" took over. The first time many people HEARD of G2 was the cancellation announcement. Like, that's a SHOCKINGLY common story, you have no idea. But you can imagine how frustrating it must be, to learn that an entire generation of that line you liked as a kid came and went while you weren't looking. Some would've happily bought G2 sets, but they DIDN'T KNOW. How are people supposed to know your that product exists if you don't TELL them about it?

Weve got a system elitist here, G2 didn't sell well because the story and marketing were trash. System elitists are one of the worst things about the lego community

This isn’t “bringing back bionicle” or a complete reboot again, it would probably be a one off commemorative set for the now adult fans of bionicle. We don’t need more classic pirates (barracuda bay is still out) and classic space is referenced and included in many sets (benny’s space squad etc). A lot of Lego fans don’t understand that without bionicle, Lego would not be as prominent as it is today. Bionicle saved the company from bankruptcy and was extremely popular at the time, so a commemorative set or diorama would be an amazing choice that would definitely sell more than you think. Just because it’s different to “normal Lego” doesn’t mean it wouldn’t sell well and that we shouldn’t get a set based of it.

Ok so here’s my two cents. Frankly I feel like you just took a surface level fact and made a bunch of assumptions off it—I find it kinda strange how you pin the blame of G2’s failure on the Bionicle community, since what actually keeps large scale franchises afloat is the support of the general public. In other words, G2 needed to draw in all the average kids who’d never even heard of Bionicle, but Lego made the mistake of using nostalgia as a crutch and just thinking brand recognition would be enough to drive sales. And they were wrong of course. So the problem wasn’t so much that Bionicle fans didn’t buy the sets—oh, we did—the real issue was that Lego failed to make it appealing to a wider audience outside the hardcore fans. So is this evidence of some flaw inherent to Bionicle itself that makes it unmarketable to the masses? Of course not. Surely all it takes is one look at G1 to see that. You simply can’t tell me that a Lego series capable of running for nearly a decade uninterrupted doesn’t have what it takes to be successful.

And none of that even touches upon the fact that the vote is only for a single anniversary set anyway—not nearly as risky as launching an entire theme. For that reason, I don’t think it’s entirely logical to equate it to like a Bionicle G3 or something.

Of course, you’re allowed to not want Bionicle back, and if it loses the vote then it loses the vote. I’m not trying to convince anyone one way or another with what theme to support. I just think people ought to be careful about making factual judgements before knowing the full circumstances.

We're talking about a single 18+ set meant for a large community of adult fans, not an entire reboot with a huge budget meant for kids, yet you warn LEGO that if they're going to do Bionicle, they will lose money.

Please do not put all the blame for Bionicle G2 on the fans. There is several other factors that came into play. 2015 sold fine enough to get a 2016 wave, however there’s a reason why Bionicle fans couldn’t really pick up much of the 2016 sets, and I know EXACTLY from experience myself. For 2016’s sets, I could BARELY find them anywhere, and heck, it took a few months until I finally realized I found them ONLY at Toys R’ Us. So it’s wrong to put all the blame on us, because I know myself that I had a hard time getting any of the sets. Also, I don’t online shop, so I’m rather forced to shop in-stores, and don’t say that “oh, well we still could’ve had it selling well online”, because the theme isn’t just going to continue from the online sales, there also needs to be enough sales in-stores, onlines stores can’t just carry it for the whole market. Around where I live, we don’t have any of the LEGO stores. Bionicle 2015 was everywhere, however the 2016 wave I could only find in ONE store, and it was quite a few ways from where I live. Another big issue was the advertising.

So yeah, don’t assume that we can help everything. I was even planning on getting some more sets like Umarak and Kopaka, but atlas, they were gone not too long after a few days I went up to the store following the announcement of G2’s discontinuation only a few days afterwards.

Bruh, Bionicle is the only reason your precious bricks and minifigs didn't go bye-bye in early 2000s.

Bionicle more than deserves actual acknowledgment from the company that now produces 90 percent Ninjago, 5 percent licensed themes, 4 percent rehashes of City, Castle, Space, etc, and 1 percent original themes these days.

This video I'd kinda asinine. This is like saying transformers should have died in generation 2. Both generation 2s failed due to lack of marketing. Also this is supposed to be an adult collectors item. I kinda imagined it would be a lego store exclusive item

"Bionicle 2015 didn't sell well, so a new set wouldn't sell well."

You're kinda forgetting one thing: Just a year or two after its second cancellation, Bionicle started to regain popularity with those who grew up with it, and those discovering it for the first time, a momentum that has just kept growing to this day. Plus, as much as I loved a lot of the reboot sets(that I DID buy...When I could, since 2016 had some wonky distribution), the story was barely there until the second half of the first year, and by then, it was too late for most people(including Lego's execs, by all indications). G2 was barely advertised, and barely given a chance to thrive in the way the original did. The context for this set and the context for G2 are entirely different, and the failings for the latter should not be taken into account for the former.

Gee. I wonder why? It’s almost like we haven’t had the chance to buy something in 4 years.
