Bonus Bonus Tip! If you're on pc, you don't even have to alt+f4! In the file explorer, simply find your save files via of random numbers folder). That final folder is the only folder in savedata, and it has all your save files for Borderlands 2 inside. Simply sort the folder by "Date Modified", and your most recent save should be at the top, being the character you just played as. Right click the file, and tick the box "read-only", then apply. Make sure you have selected only the file and NOT the folder, as well. You will know if you have selected the folder because there will be a warning, and the box you check will be filled with a square instead of a tick.

By putting the save file into "read-only" mode, it stops borderlands 2 from editing that save file.

BUT how does this help you farm for mission reward loot? When you hand in a quest and get a mission reward with parts you are not satisfied with, you can save and quit, but it will not save because of "read-only" mode. Once in the main menu, reload your save file by clicking "characters" and choosing your character again. Then continue your game, and, granted you have done all the steps correctly, the mission should be available to turn in.

Side-note: The claptrap stash has it's own save file. But what does this mean for you? It means you can put gear inside it, and the game will remember it, EVEN if your save file is in "read-only" mode. This is useful if you want multiple elements of a weapon.

If you forget to reload the character, and continue the game, don't panic. Nothing bad happens. However, the game will still think you have handed in the quest, so you will have to save and quit straight after getting into the game and reload the save.

IMPORTANT! Once you have finished farming the quest reward loot, you MUST find your save file and un-tick the box "read-only". If you fail to do this, then when you exit the game or change characters, the save file will NOT save your new, perfect loot.

You can also go to the save file - properties - activate read only mode - apply and then you just save and quit after you turn it the quest. Don´t need to alt f4 (you need to select the character after save and quit).

You can just make your save file to Read-Only right before you turn in the quest, and than just load your save file again and again till you have the weapon you want. And if you got it just drop in to Claptrap's Stash and than you can get it when you turn you save file back. This work's on PC only i think. (Sorry for my bad english.)

Well I'll be damned! I thought farming for quest rewards was only something people on PC could do by using "Read Only" farming.

You see, I'm an Xbox player and I thought I was just stuck with the version of a gun that the game hands me. But now I know how to farm for a nice Lady Fist or Sandhawk thanks to you K6! Appreciate it! 💙
