Emax Tinyhawk Freestyle vs Tinyhawk S vs the Original: Which is best for you?

The Emax Tinyhawk Freestyle is an awesome 2.5" quad. Let's take a look at how it compares to the TInyhawk S and the original Tinyhawk. Keep in mind I'm no professional pilot. I'm just a guy learning how to fly acro.

Dang, the Freestyle's ability to freestyle is so wildly apparent in your video. It just LOVES to get inverted!!!

I originally bought the EZ Pilot. Last week I bought the Freestyle 2. Now I want the form factor of the EZ Pilot but with the ability to do acro. I'm thinking the S model.

Learning acro on the TinyHawk S, doing rolls now on the 2s battery. Flips i need alot more practice. Landed my drone in water today and its not binding now, so its time to upgrade to the Freestyle next :) The RTF Kit is the best money you will spend if you are trying to get into this hobby!

I have the Tinyhawk and received the Freestyle today. Freestyle is the best but these are all good products.

thanks for the review. I'm learning on the 'original' as well but find that about 75 yards or so I start to loose signal. annoying not to see anything and of course, I crash immediately. Two things. 1. I see you've routed the attenae out the back and further up in the air. do you think that would help reception? How did you do that? 2. I see where they've come out with the TinyHawk 2 which has switchable increased range/power transmit capability. Do you think I'd do better to upgrade?

I learned on the TH OG and loved it. Got the TH S as soon as it came out and loved the power of the 2s but the motors get very hot. Just got my TH FS and have yet to fly it.

Hello Jack! Another great review. I have the original Tinyhawk and love it. Will eventually get the other two. Happy flying!

Can you recommend one of these for me? I am aware that the Tinyhawk 2's are out which takes care of some of the shortcomings of the earlier reviewed model. I have a tiny whoop sized quad for indoor that doesn't have a camera but wanted to get into FPV. Looking for something primarily to be used outdoor. It sounds like the Freestyle may be the one, but then again, you learned acro on the S, so I'm thinking maybe I should too. Just didn't want some much redundancy in the JJRC H36 that I already have.

A short time ago I bought a TInyHawk-S as I am new to quads and wanted to start small with something that was robust and could take a few crashes and not be damaged. I saw the TinyHawk-S reviewed by many with great praise, now I regret buying anything from them. I received my TInyHawk-S, with a defective ESC as far as I can tell, upon powering it up, I began to set up the VTX, you plug in the battery and hold in the VTX button and start counting flashed to figure out what channel you want to be on, well about 5-10 min into setup, I see white smoke coming from the board. I quickly unplugged it and waited plugged it back in, and it seemed ok. I continued the setup, and test flew it, and it seemed fine. I flew it a total of 4 times successfully, doing basic hovering and doing small circle circuits. I put it away after 4 flights, next day went to do more flights, plugged in a new battery, white smoke again appeared and this time the quad was dead, now it still powers up in betaflight and you can read the FC and stuff but it will not fly, or power-up under battery. I can only figure the one ESC is dead where the smoke appeared new the one motor plug. I did not want to try and get warranty, it was a 50 dollar board and I know small company’s would more than likely blame me for it all, so to avoid the hassle I just bit the bullet and ordered a new FC at my expense. The new board arrived, it arrived with the FC not properly flashed, it would not go into DFU mode, all motors turned same direction and I was stumped. I stumbled upon a EMAX channel where they gave instruction on flashing a TinyHawk-S, in fact I thought it strange the title was binding the TinyHawk-S, and it started out flashing a new quad out of the box and flashing a new HEX and it also gave a piece of software to fix the FC should it not want to enter into DFU mode. sounds like my issue exactly, why would the produce such a video if this were not an issue. Well I followed the video in the video description it gave the links to download the FC fix software to enter DFU mode, it gave the betaflight software, and it gave the HEX and CLI software. Now the real crap starts, the description link takes you to the newest version of Betaflight, the one they use was 10.5, the description takes you to 10.6, in the video the use the betaflight target as MATEKF411RX, in 10.5 this is ok, in 10.6 you have to pick from 2, MATEKF411RX(Legacy) or MATEKF411RX(MTKS) well this was something the video did not cover, I was stuck having to test both and try and figure out what target may work, till this day I still do not know, I was told by some forums to pick the MTKS version, this is not working so well. Anyway, I left comments on that channel as to why they would not update the video with proper flashing tutorial, they told me that they did not recommend flashing at all, even though the video the first thing they did before even binding was flash the FC with new HEX and CLI, I also explained that the board would not even enter DFU mode and all motors spun in same direction, they then recommended I submit a ticket as I think they realized they gave me info that was not within the proper methods. I submitted a ticket and got abused by the same guy that was running that channel stating I did not need to flash the board even though it was not properly flashed in the first place, and he gave me new info to us BLheli to switch 2 of the motors spinning in wrong direction. Ok fine I went along with that next but simply asked to get correct HEX and CLI and target info to straighten out the mess I already got into, then they started on trying to get the board back and trying to warranty the FC, at my expense of course, I did not want this I only wanted to get the info to fix the issue they basically caused. This turned out to be a disaster I got accused of being confrontational and combative as I was not obeying his orders, his words not mine, and that if I do not follow the orders my ticket would be closed. I replied I only want info to fix the issues caused by the video and to correct the motors spin. Well Ticket closed. I open a new ticket, this time got same guy, same really rude attitude as I think should his misgiving be discovered he may be in hot water. Well we again went down the path he would not support anything but me sending in the FC for warranty. I did not think it needed warranty just to be properly setup and configured, and I asked for that info and for him to stop being so rude and help me, well Ticket Closed I urge anyone reading this do not by from EMAX, after reviewing a great deal of forums I found may in the same exact boat as me with FC issues, boards with motors coming spinning all same direction, now this may be easy for you experienced guys, but I am very very new and got directions that got me in hot water from EMAX itself. I have contacted the Office of Corporate and Consumer Affairs, I have a standing complaint in with the Attorney Generals Office, and the BBB. They are not having any great luck either, but a back conduct is going to be set against EMAX should they fail to comply and I am putting out this post to many channels involving Emax and TinyHawk. I have a Tinyhawk 2 and a TH freestyle being shipped to me as I write this. The TH2 will be great for indoors, as I got tired of bouncing my Kingkong ET100 (big whoop) off the ceiling!

You can unlock the vtx to higher mw, at least on the freestyle

Imo the S is replacing the normal one. It is better even on 1s. The freestyle is in a different class. You can't really fly the freestyle indoors unless there really is nothing to break. So you might even want to get both.

Hey, thanks for the vid ! Exactly the kind of comparative review I was searching for !
Also, the tinyhawk cam is only linked to a gHz antenna, (right?)
How do you proceed for recording footage ?
Greetings,

Hi Half Chrome. Great Video. It made me by the Tinyhawk S for my first drone. I have one question though. I have the ev800 (not D) goggles and the reception is not great. What do you recommend. Is it just that i have junkie goggles I have added a aomway antenna the picture got a little better, but not much. Do you recommend flying on a certain channel or setting up the drone in beta flight using the goggles a certain way? Any advice you could give would be really appreciated.

I love the look of freestyle one, but it would be smarter to buy s one for start, so you can smash into things while flying home
