Pentagon approves sale of smart bombs to Israel

Показать описание
The Pentagon on Monday notified Congress that it had approved the sale of nearly 7,000 GPS-guided weapons to Israel.
Israel requested 6,900 Joint Direct Attack Munition tail kits, or JDAMs, as part of a weapons purchase request worth $647 million that comes as tensions mount with Middle East rival Iran.
The JDAM is a guidance kit that converts unguided bombs into so-called "smart" bombs. JDAMs can be preprogrammed to hit a target or navigate autonomously toward a target using GPS.
JDAM kits are built by Boeing along with Alliant Techsystems, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and Raytheon.
This animation explains how the JDAM system works.
