DON'T BUY FAKES!! The Fake Watch Industry In China. Be Careful When Buying a Watch.

The luxury Swiss watchmakers have always been an icon of modern sports brands of such standing, it is only natural that many will choose to make fake watches. It is not always easy to tell the difference between the original and a fake, especially if you’re not a watch expert and don’t know how to open the back of the watch to inspect its movement.

FAKE WATCH MYTH #1: Fake Watches are Lighter than Genuine Watches
Rubbish! Counterfeiters today easily make watches that are the same weight. How? Well, they are using the same ETA movements as the original manufacturers or second source copies. Therefore weight is no longer an acid test.
FAKE WATCH MYTH #2: It’s Not Complicated
You will read that complications never work on fake watches. It is true that in many cases they do not. But many luxury watches do not have any complications except date, which may work on a fake watch. Therefore, the complication test is usually not helpful in separating the fakes from the real.
FAKE WATCH MYTH #3: The Date Bubbles on Fake Rolexes Don’t Magnify Enough
It used to be that the “Cyclops,” the lens over the date on a Rolex did not magnify 2.5 times on a fake Rolex. That is not so difficult to fake anymore. I have seen many fake Rolex watches with the correct magnification. I would not depend on that as a litmus test.
FAKE WATCH MYTH #4: A Genuine Movement Means a Genuine Watch
Have you heard that movements on fake watches are never the same? How wrong that is. Most watch brands today buy their movements from ETA, the world’s largest supplier of mechanical movements. The counterfeiters can now buy Chinese or Japanese reproductions or indeed actual ETA movements from secondary sources. Take a look below at how similar reproduction movements look. Which of below is authentic and which is fake? They look pretty similar, don’t they?
FAKE WATCH MYTH #5: Don’t Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth
There is no such thing as a free lunch, right? The conventional wisdom is that gifts of luxury watches are fakes. Well, this may be close to the truth. But real watches are inherited and sold. If we all go around scrapping inheritance gifts, it may be an expensive error. This is hardly a definitive test for telling genuine finds from imposters.
FAKE WATCH MYTH #6: All the Watches on Craig’s List are Fake
Is this a myth? Probably not, honestly. I can’t recommend looking on Craig’s List for a luxury watch.
Twenty years ago the fakes were really fake. You could look at a watch and really quickly determine it was trash. Not anymore. As manufacturers add counterfeit measures, the counterfeiters copy them. Today we have super fakes that take experience and knowledge to detect.

The real danger is to overpay for the original when good fake is distunguishable only under microscope.

this shows that luxury watch industry is 1% cost of materials, manufacturing, R&D and 99% marketing+margin

I don't mind buying a fake watch. As long as I'm paying fake watch prices.

I would rather buy a fake, and put $10, 000 towards a house, car or Holiday 🇨🇦

I do not own any fakes but, surely if you were to buy one, you would like people to think it is genuine?
When one of your friends turns up down the pub wearing a £15, 000 watch and his car is only worth £3, 000 and can't afford a holiday, my last question certainly wouldn't be, is that genuine?

If you stop a moment and think for a bit, don't you think that we're the one getting punked by the original expensive watch companies?

Let’s look it this way. You drive a mercedes, but you are wearing a fake rolex, people will definite say its real. But you wear a real rolex and take a public transport, people say its fake. Lol.

A personal friend bought a Rolex 15 years back for 25k when he found himself in a financial jam tried to sell it for 10k, after a month or so of taking to diffrent jewelry stores and a few pawn shops having it taken apart his highest bid for a 25k watch was thats when I realized how truly worthless a real rolex is... my personal opinion, diffrent strokes for diffrent folks

Maybe people should wonder when a Chinese fake costing 25$ is almost as nice as an original one, that maybe the original one is terribly overpriced. Perhaps not the person who buys a cheap fake is being ripped off but the one who is buying the original...

I don't mind buying homage watches even if they are made in China, but buying replicas and fake watches is another thing. I've heard that some people who own real Rolex watches have a replica which they use some times when there's a risk of someone robbing you, losing the watch or damaging it which kinds of makes sense. But seeing the average Joe that counts the days before his next paycheck because hes almost out of money with a ''Rolex'', is kinda obvious that it's a fake one. Only rich people can blend in with a fake Rolex watches but they can only fool those who know nothing about watches. There's no shame in owning an inexpensive watch even if has a quartz movement inside.

Here’s the deal, and this is for those who really like fakes. Make sure when you buy a fake watch, have a real bmw or mercedes benz to go with it so people don’t ask! Buying a Patek...wearing it and riding a compact honda ain’t gonna wing it! It’s about perception. Now for those who prefer the real thang, save up and make sure you have insurance and can afford the parts and services every 5 years. It’s just like getting married! Difference is...in a divorce you don’t pay alimony because the real watch appreciates...just don’t get drunk and lose it!

If a fake watch for $300 is almost indistinguishable from a $10, 000 Real Rolex, is the Rolex really worth $10K?

I ordered an automatic all stainless steel Rolex from China 3 Years ago. It looked so real that a jeweler couldn't tell it was fake without taking the back off. I paid $38 USD. Fast forward 3 years later it has not changed color at all and it still works!

There is no such thing as a fake watch. It is actually a watch.

If I ever go there I think I'd have to buy a fake to test before putting lots of money into the real thing!

I'd rather buy 100$ replica than buy a 50k watch

If you want to wear a 1st teir Rolex everyday, including sports and recreation, why not wear a clone and keep your real one for office or suit and tie affairs.
I think i would only wear a clone if i owned the real one and was just trying to avoid hard wear and tear in a R&R setting.

No racism here. Watches are watches and people are people. Don't mix them up. If there are no buyers from other parts of the world, they won't make so many fake watches. The Chinese are not culprits. The buyers are as they encourage them to make more. No mention of the white, the black, the yellow, etc., here. All are equal, and some are equally wicked.
