How to create fake light cones - 60 second Blender tutorial

Sometimes volumetrics are too slow for the result you are going for, in this tutorial i show you how to create fake volumetric light cones for a much quicker rendering.
How to make it work in EEVEE:
Change the cone materials blend mode to "alpha blend" and add a color ramp node after the subtract node.
Thanks to "Justin" to suggest this change!

Important: In the "light paths" tab you can find the "max bounces" settings.
Do increase the "max bounces" number if any black areas appear when using many light cones.

Pro tip: These light cones render noise free with only one sample.
You can render them on a separate render layer and add them in the compositor to save even more render time ;)

I guess Ian Hubert is breeding a new generation of very quick tutorial geniuses.

OMG thank you very much, I was trying to make some city lights that wouldn't be affected by distance like with volumetric.

It worked! Thank you for the tutorial :)
Just one thought... I know the video is supposed to be just one minute long, but in order to be really helpful, I think it might be better, if you not just explain what you are doing, but why you're doing it, so that the spectators learn how certain nodes really work :)

Awesome tutorial!! I've thought of doing this before but I never tried it because for some reason I assumed it wouldn't look very good, but you proved me wrong! It's perfect for some projects I have in mind

I don't know why but it wasn't working for me at first. Then i swapped the shaders going into the Mix Shader node so that the Transparent BDSF Shader was going into the first input and the Emission shader into the second. Then it worked. I hope I can help someone out!

VIDEO: Don't forget to add...
I'M LIKE: Dude, what? Where the other nodes came from and what are they and why I don't have them? Also what you mean "don't forget to..." ? I'm here to learn it. How could I not-forget when I don't even know yet? :D

This is how animation 3D and 2D (hybrid) vehicles and street lights are done, I guess. I saw that being used in Transformers Cyberverse and I wondered how to create it with Blender 2.82a. Now I know. I tried following along but my results were not like in the tutorial. Maybe I did it wrong. Will try again!

Constructive criticism point - way too fast with the editing. need to slow down so we can follow it.
