You can Tame the Terra and Cryst in the wild. But I recommend if you put effort into farming Deer and than Vanwyrm with good passive skills, then transfer those passive skills to the Terra or Cryst through breeding so you dont have to do a ton of work twice is a lot more efficient. Both the variants are not faster in any way, they just look different and have different elemental attacks.

I was using deer a lot too, and really liked it. But I switched to wolf. Its base speed is higher, but main reason is that in dungeons deer often cant fit through doors, but wolf has no such problem.

I found a Morrzarina with Runner and bred that with a Nitewing to create a Vanwyrm with Runner. I then proceeded to breed that with a nible and swift to obtain all three speed buffs.

Heads up, you can get Fenglope pretty early on, and it's one of, if not the fastest ground mount with an insanely high double jump and a signature move like Eikthyrdeer that goes even faster and farther. All you need to do is breed a Direwolf and a Melpaca, which are pretty easy to find earlygame. Ideally, find parents with swift or runner so your Fenglope has a good chance of getting those traits too!

a wolf for dungeons works wonders since it fits through the tighter spots. I'll breed one with swift and a bunch of dmg and use that to battle.
The deer is the best movement option by far because of the charge. You can yeet yourself from a high point and jump after it to keep most speed.
I was breeding a couple of nimble and runner vanwyrms to spin the wheel and see what passives i could get, while i was catching wild ones to get one with swift and then those 2 gave life to a swift one. It had swift and no runner or nimble. They either combined somehow or i got mega lucky.

If going by just pure speed, the Dire Wolf has been my Mainstay. Getting it up there and with the right passive trait, the thing just Takes Off. My friend uses the deer and he just couldn't keep up. From what I could tell personally, no other mount is as fast.

Pair it with the Vanwyrm and they have been my go too Mounts the entire game.

I got an Arsox as my first rideable mount. It has a dash attack too that can give you a good distance boost. I found it trapped in a cage at one of the bad guys camps. I literally just walked up and unlocked the cage cause the AI in this game are completely oblivious sometimes.

The deer also are a possible boss for the dungeon cave just northeast of your farming area. Teleport to the syndicate tower and head up the stairs following the dirt road to the right, and you'll find it in the cliff on your left.
Honestly, though, Univolt is far superior given the added stun abilities and just as fast if not moreso at base.

i use the wolf mount. considering deer has cutting efficiency maybe upgrading it actually increases that. would be interestin g to see if increasing wolf skill level increases his speed considering his says faster than most mounts.
