got two minutes into the video and you said "Descartes was wrong" (about dualism) the only reason that you have given why he might be wrong is that monism is widely held today... i don't understand how that leads the conclusion that he was wrong.
I agree that we need to separate intuition from action to a certain extent, but i think any leader would tell you that intuition is vital to the decision making process, we just need to be critical.
look forward to hearing your thoughts, peace and love people.

"He got this wrong"
What a statement! Please learn some philosophy about complex systems before driving from your personal convictions what is right or wrong and portray that as educational content.

Just substitute Truth and Deception for mind and body in this lecture and you will see that Descartes was correct.

And i believe, mind and body both exits and they are interconnected...
Neither of them controlling the other

The concept of dualism is not just based on instincts but reason as well..just just because it feels so doesn't mean it's just that.

I got the lesson of Monism from psychedelics. We are all one. Great video, though I don't like the statement we shouldn't trust our intuition. We should test our intuition but ultimately we relay on them. It sends a more pragmatic view because our intuitions are made for survival.

If you want to understand the nature of reality here it is. Descartes was correct about reality being dualistic. But here is where he got it wrong, the mind and body are one, and the soul is the other, as opposed to the mind and body being separate. As for monism, it seems to want to dismiss duality as an outcome after realizing that everything comes from one source. There is not really a reason to dispute duality coming from one source. And I never see an explanation of this. I would argue that monism defines who created reality, and duality defines what was created. So it is not really in opposition. Monism just says reality is not a duality and clearly all of reality, from our bodies to our thoughts and even to the design of all life, is a duality.

I love how someone with less than 30 years of human experience can just say "this way of viewing the universe is wrong".

I'm sorry but this is a is a philosophical debate. You can only disprove philosophy with material experiments if you already have a materialistic world view when approaching this topic (which is a philosophy in itself). The idea of what even constitutes proof is also a question of philosophy. That is why it is impossible to prove or disprove anything in philosophy. I can tell this guy has never ventured vary deep into the world of philosophy. And most certainly does not understand Descartes

The dualism argument has always been a tough concept to explain. The way I interpret it, the mind and body operate in unison and share sensory input and experiences alike. The main defining thing that separates them is the ways in which they process these inputs. The body has a simple response, either avoidance or confrontation, while the mind is influenced by experiences and expectations, learned behavior/reaction vs instant reaction. I believe Descartes to be true in his assumption as far as without the understanding and rational function of the mind, the body would simply be a walking animalistic organism, incapable of inhabiting a society due to the inability to adapt to or engage with the complexities of existing within a society. Add in a mix of different cultural practices and beliefs, and we've created an illusory world of images and creative ideas that the body itself cannot simply partake in on its own.

Dualism is so interesting when discussing about epistemological problems.

How could you tie the concepts of dualism and monism to teaching? How could these two worldviews affect teachers of adult learners?

The speaker here is being sentimental. The fact that you don't believe something doesn't rule out the fact that thing isn't true.

I have personally experienced the reality of the existence of soul and body, spiritual and physical, God and man.

Experience trumps mere insinuations.

Lol. The level of conviction and certainty of how you suggest that Descartes was "wrong", as if you had discovered some newfound empirical evidence to explain the true nature of reality, comes off as slightly arrogant with a hint of ignorance lol. Your presumptuous "belief" as to the fundamental underlying nature of reality, is simply that, just another "belief". Although your conviction is admirable, and in my opinion kinda misguided, try to stay grounded in the "fact" that your subjective interpretations regarding the intricate architecture of this reality are simply that, YOUR subjective interpretations. You, or know one else, will ever be able to quantify, measure, or even philosophically encapsulate the nature of consciousness, let alone the underlying mechanics of existence. But nice try though lol. Blessings to you and all of your endeavors.

There's something I'd really love you clear up for me, does it mean that a monist does not believe in the existence of the soul\mind? He just believe in the physical body?
I'm really confused here.
