The Vampyre by John Polidori | Short Story Tuesday

Today I'm talking about one of the first fictional vampire stories. Polidori writes about a young British gentleman named Aubrey who runs into a mysterious and magnetic figure named Lord Ruthven. Ruthven seemingly dies during their trip across Europe, but Aubrey is disturbed when he learns the truth about him. I like how Polidori introduces ideas that would go on to become staples in vampire literature as well as adds to the canon of gothic literature. A story worth checking out!

I recently finished Dracula and I was sort of let down, but I did appreciate it. I'm currently reading Carmilla and I finding it interesting and in the some book, is this story, The Vampyre. It sounds cool.

Been wanting to get a hold of a copy of this for a while. Building a gothic classics collection. Of this, "Carmilla" and "Dracula, " which would you say is your favorite?
