In this video Heimler walks you through Unit 1 Topic 4 of the AP Government curriculum. It deals with challenges to the Articles of Confederation. Under this confederated system of government, most of the power was kept by the states and very little was given to the federal (central) government.

The weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation included no executive branch, no judicial branch, no national army, no ability for Congress to raise revenue through taxes, etc. When Congress was unable to pay its bills and additional pressure was added through Shays's Rebellion, delegates gathered at the Constitutional Convention to hash out a new Constitution that would shore up the weaknesses of the Articles.

I have a question regarding a national army. In the video it says the federal government couldn’t raise a national army under the articles. Does this just mean the federal government couldn’t enforce conscription or does it means there could be no federal army at all?

I prefer the articles of confederation over the constitution anyday of the week, especially right know with the government violating our civil liberties left, right, and center. Not to mention the legitimacy of the current president is in question, governemt mandates being forced on everyone, like thevax, critical race theory in schools, states making their policies nationwide and shoving it down the throats of other states(california and its obsession with gun control welfarism). Those "weaknesses" of the articles of confederation are looking mighty strong in todays America. If you value your freedom, independence, and traditions, which is being eroded alarmingly fast under Joe Biden's administration, then you would see the value and wisdom of the articles of confederation. The current system favors centralization and universality over Decentralization, individual peoples liberties, and individual state self-direction, determination, and development. The United States used to be refered to as These United States. The way things are now, I say we should change it to The Centralized-Controled Provinces.

Ya but Shay and the farmers were right. Plus everything the colonies feared about a strong centralized government came to pass. If anything we need to go back to the AofC.
